These are some of the things that happen at trials that can help convict an innocent person.
Questionable conduct by lawyers, judges, and proseutors. In their haste to convict they use witnesses within the jail system that have malice against the defendant. They make mistakes and convict the wrong person.
The questionable conduct includes:
Courtroom misconduct (* making inappropriate or inflammatory comments in the presence of the jury; introducing or attempting to introduce inadmissible, inappropriate or inflammatory evidence; mischaracterizing the evidence or the facts of the case to the court or jury; committing violations pertaining to the selection of the jury; or making improper closing arguments); *
Mishandling of physical evidence (hiding, destroying or tampering with evidence, case files or court records);
Failing to disclose exculpatory evidence;
Threatening, badgering or tampering with the witnesses;
Using false or misleading evidence;
Harassing, displaying bias toward, or having a vendetta against the defendant or defendant's counsel (including selective or vindictive prosecution)
Improper behavior during the proceedings.

Maryland like many other states make their share of mistakes. http://www.publicintegrity.org/pm/states.aspx?act=list&st=MD

After reading what has happened to innocent people, can we say that a country like Russia is unjust? Abraham Lincoln knew that the US was being deceitful when we talked about "freedom" and had slaves!
I was under the impression for as long as I've been alive and knowledgeable (61 years) that an innocent person's record is automatically expunged as if there had never been one. Now I read that I was in error. Why in the world would police and prosecutors want to jail an innocent person in the first place??!! Is this how they would like to be treated? I think not. However, there should be laws on the books to specifically prosecute police, prosecutors, judges and anyone else who commits perjury--and no leniency given whatsoever when they are convicted! The very harshest of sentences should be given as an example to others who would lie. Did you know that one of the Ten Commandments is: "You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor?" That made the list of the top ten! It comes under the general heading of: "You shall love your neighbor as yourself."
I hope that people who are in any part of law enforcement read my words and take them seriously. By convicting an innocent person, you make justice a mockery! Many people have lost respect for the rule of law in the US--I'm one of them.
